Relationship between Prostate-Specific Antigen and state Cancer Risk: The Prostate Biopsy

چکیده
wnloade pose: The relationship between prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level and prostate cancer risk resubject to fundamental disagreements. We hypothesized that the risk of prostate cancer on biopsy iven PSA level is affected by identifiable characteristics of the cohort under study. erimental Design: We used data from five European and three U.S. cohorts of men undergoing y for prostate cancer; six were population-based studies and two were clinical cohorts. The associbetween PSA and prostate cancer was calculated separately for each cohort using locally weighted plot smoothing. ults: The final data set included 25,772 biopsies and 8,503 cancers. There were gross disparities en cohorts with respect to both the prostate cancer risk at a given PSA level and the shape of the rve. These disparities were associated with identifiable differences between cohorts: for a given PSA a greater number of biopsy cores increased the risk of cancer (odds ratio for >6versus 6-core bi1.35; 95% confidence interval, 1.18-1.54; P < 0.0005); recent screening led to a smaller increase in er unit change in PSA (P = 0.001 for interaction term) and U.S. cohorts had higher risk than the ean cohorts (2.14; 95% confidence interval, 1.99-2.30; P < 0.0005). clusions: Our results suggest that the relationship between PSA and risk of a positive prostate biaries, both in terms of the probability of prostate cancer at a given PSA value and the shape of the opsy v risk curve. This poses challenges to the use of PSA-driven algorithms to determine whether biopsy is indicated. Clin Cancer Res; 16(17); 4374–81. ©2010 AACR.

Investigation of the relationship between prostate specific antigen doubling time and the severity of a malignant tumor of the prostate
Background: Prostate cancer has been reported as a worldwide important kind of cancer and the second most common cause of cancer-related mortality among men. Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) serum level is one of the most important markers of prostate cancer diagnosis. While PSA level helps predict the risk of prostate cancer development, researchers still looking for ways to increase the accura...
متن کاملAssociation between prostate specific antigen change over time and prostate cancer recurrence risk: a joint model
Background: Prostate specific antigen (PSA) is an important biomarker to monitor patients after treated with radiation therapy (RT). The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between the PSA data and prostate cancer recurrence using the joint modeling. Methods: This historical cohort study was performed on 422 prostate cancer patients. Inclusion criteria included: patients with loc...

Background and Objective: Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers of the urinary system. The most used method for diagnosis is transrectal ultrasonography-guided biopsy. The purpose of this study is a statistical analysis with the aim of reducing unnecessary biopsies based on individual, geographical and genetic patterns in our region. Methods: The medical records of all patients who...
متن کاملAssociation between rs2735839 and Serum Prostate-specific Antigen Level Regarding Risk of Prostate Cancer in Iranian Population
Background and Objective: Prostate cancer is among the five common cancers in males. It is second cancer in terms of the age-standardized rate (ASR) (ASR=16.6) in Iran. The rs2735839 G/A, an intergenic polymorphism is located on chromosome 19q13.33 at 600 base pairs of the KLK3 gene untranslatable region. This gene which codes prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is used in the screening and diagnos...
متن کاملWhat is the most appropriate test in detecting prostate cancer in patients with intermediate prostate specific antigen levels?
Abstract Background: Regarding the variety of tests present for detecting and also screening prostate cancer and also bearing in mind the advantages and disadvantages of these tests we decided to re-evaluate these tests (total prostate specific antigen and all of its modifications) in detecting prostate cancer in men with intermediate serum PSAlevels. Methods: Following a cross se...
متن کاملProstate-specific antigen kinetics after hypofractionated stereotactic body radiotherapy for localized prostate cancer
Background: stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) has emerged as an effective treatment for localized prostate cancer. However, prostate-specific antigen (PSA) kinetics after SBRT has not been well characterized. The objective of the current study is to analyze the rate of PSA decline and PSA nadir following hypofractonated SBRT in localized prostate cancer. Materials and Methods: From 2008...
